About

Hi, I’m Sam and I love horror! I’m an excitable little chaos gremlin with (late-diagnosed) autism and ADHD and I have an innate desire to share my love of film with the world. I’m like a magpie, presenting the little treasures I find and hoping that you like them too.

On my podcast, Horror Hyperfixations, I look at horror through a neurodivergent lens and talk to fellow ND people about the horror movies, themes and directors that have set up shop in our brains. I also chat to directors, writers, actors and all sorts of clever people about their upcoming film releases. I am always so keen to support and promote indie horror, especially queer horror, female, non-binary and trans directors and low/zero budget filmmakers. I am staunchly anti-AI and believe in the importance of thoughtful content warnings in cinema,

I enjoy reviewing horror features and shorts and am always honest – I’ll never give a hyperbolic, glowing review for clout. I may not be the most organised, eloquent or academic of reviewers (I don’t think I can quite call myself a critic!), but I’m passionate and genuine and I think that’s what’s important. I also love live theatre, especially horror. I have written for Filmhounds and Absolutely Fucking Horrifying and am working to create my own zine for neurodivergent horror writers to share what makes them happy and be unapologetically themselves.

I’m a physical media collector and special features enthusiast and love collecting special editions from companies like Second Sight, Criterion, Arrow Video and 101 Films. I adore lovingly curated releases with director, cast and creatives commentaries, interviews and featurettes on sfx, score and cinematography. I will always be team #physicalmediaisnotdead, collecting blu-rays, DVDs, VHS, records, books and CDs.

Film screenings and festivals are my jam – I love to be surrounded by people as passionate about film as me. Talking about horror (and cinema in general) makes me so happy and I get so much pleasure from engaging with creatives and fellow fans. Basically, special interest-ing all over the place!

If these ramblings haven’t put you off, and you want to say hello, please get in touch!
